Rising Damp
Rising dampness is where dampness from the ground travels up
the walls of your property through pressure or capillary action, in most cases there is either a
defective damp proof course, failed injection damp proof course, or no damp proof course installed to stop the
progress of the moisture. An inexperienced or untrained surveyor may mistake condensation or penetrating damp for rising damp and
recommend a course of action which will be unnecessarily disruptive and possibly expensive, worst of all it is also
probably not required and will simply disguise the true cause of the problem and possibly lead to other
problems.

Rising damp can usually differentiated from Penetrating damp as it is at the bottom of your walls,
and whilst damp can also penetrate at any height it is usually patchy and not as uniform as rising damp. Using some
test equipment and experience will enable your surveyor to determine the source of any dampness.
